The moon is bright, the night is dark,
Thin wisps of cloud pass o'er her arc
They swiftly ride upon the breeze,
That Heaven or Hell can ne'er appease.
The moon is bright, the shadows deep,
Phantoms flee enchanted sleep
And all the while I gaze afar,
I become in the twinkling of a star.
